Car Insurance GMC (Car Insurance). Why do all American Airlines employees dog the Super 80 or MD80?

Why do all American Airlines employees dog the Super 80 or MD80? I am a Platinum on American airlines and fly almost weekly. Most of my trips are on Super 80's. While the interior is outdated frequent fliers love the 2-3 seating in coach which only puts 20% of coach passengers in center isle. I have also notice how dependable these aircraft are and I cannot remember a delay of more than a couple of hours when a Super 80 is parked at the gate. I rarely hear flight attendants say anything kind about the aging airplane. Recently on a flight from LAX to DFW I sat next to a pilot dead heading and he told me he was a former Super 80 pilot and now flys the 737 and it was the best change in his young career. I never hear anyone have anything good to say about this workhorse. While American slowly replaces Super 80s with the 737 I will never forget my six years of travel in the dependable Super 80.

Boeing bought Mcdonnell Douglas and ceased production of the would be last of the MD-80 series aircraft renamed as the Boeing 717 series. Basically it was a shortened MD-80 with V2500 engines. Same ones used on the MD-90 airplane. Since production was ceased, there were no plans to bring it back. They bought Mcdonnel Douglas for several reasons but one I know was to snuff competition. Now they are in competition with Airbus. But If it ain't Boeing I ain't Goeing!! Never the less, the MD-80 will be missed...In my opinion, best looking aircraft ever flown besides the 757 and 767 planes. The good news is Delta, as far as my knowledge, has no current plans to retire it's MD-88s and MD-90s. But there is just something about that shiny polished American Airlines look on this plane that makes it look so great. Value for money is what it seems like to me Maybe because it is so small inside and you almost have to duck while standing, and it puts a kink in their necks I know it does mine and I am just a passenger on them from time to time. As far as the actual aircraft goes they seem like good aircraft. I think that MD-80s are as dependable as 737 - And I personally prefer the 2+3 row type seating - "Less crowdy" cabins - The reason people dog the super 80's are because they are becoming old. They do not have the best maintenance record and are very loud compared to the 737. The engines are a low by-pass jet turbine engine, where as the 737-757 etc use a high by-pass engine creating less noise. The super 80 is also a narrow body aircraft whereas the 737 is a much wider, shorter aircraft. There are not too many super 80's left in service today. This is due to the high fuel cost. They have never been very economical (especially now) but they sure are fast! Perhaps the biggest deal is the equipment in the cockpit (avionics). The super 80's are all old round dial gauges. There is nothing wrong with these, they are just becoming obsolete in airliners today. The new glass digital instruments are able to display more information at once and more accurate. This improves the safety and pilot awareness. The super 80 is a great aircraft and is just getting old. Perhaps one day engineers will look back and redesign it to be more profitable in today's economy. Nevertheless the super 80 will be missed. The MD-80 was a derivative of the DC-9 that was an outdated aircraft in the 1960's. Everything on the airplane reeked of 1930's technology. There was serious problem with FOD that was only partially cured by the "mud flaps" The JT8-D-200 series engines seldom went full TBO. The primitive pressurization and air conditioning systems looked like an afterthought and were a constant source of problems. They had a lot of serious structural problems with the rear pressure bulkhead, and wing spars. I don't know of any catastrophic failures, but there was a very real potential and some close calls. If you think the Boeing skin de lamination was scary, think of the whole back of the fuselage blowing out or the damned wing breaking about 1/2 way out!!! They also had some really bad stabilizer jack screw problems, and one even caused a fatal crash.

Car Window Isn't Working? I have a Buick 1999. I googled how to fix a broken window and it sounded like the window was just off the track, but I don't understand. I took the door panel off and am looking around to see what's wrong. The wirings connecting the lift to operate the window try to work whenever I hit the button to move the window up and down. But it goes wonky and doesn't move all the way. Where's the track? Is it on the lift (that metal beam thing?) If it is, it's concealed inside another panel of the door. car insurance.

GMC . Why will my car not start?

Why will my car not start? Last night I tried to start my car and it wouldn't. No power at all. The hazard lights wouldn't even work. I pushed it into a safe place in anticipation of coming back in the morning. I tried one more time before I left and it cranked up fine. It's doing the same this morning. In accessory mode, everything worked ok, but I went to start up and everything turned off and no sound from the engine. After several attempts of this, even at accessory mode nothing worked. Not even hazard lights. Any ideas? Car is 1998 Malibu, battery is Napa 75, purchased October 2010 car insurance.

GMC . How to Change Rotors on a Nissan Xterra

The Nissan Xterra is manufactured with hydraulically actuated disk brakes, which use a caliper, pads, and rotor to stop the truck using friction. The primary friction surface is the spinning rotor, which can wear or become damaged. Warped rotors can cause reduced braking power, and possibly loss of control at high speeds. Replacement can take the average backyard mechanic about 30 minutes per brake.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Socket set
Lug wrench
Floor jack
Jack stand
Screwdrivers

Step by Step :
1
Lift the Xterra at the wheel by placing the floor jack on a frame rail and pumping the lever until the wheel is off the ground; turn the lug nuts counterclockwise and the wheel will come off. Store the wheel away from the work area. Place a jack stand near the jack's head on the same frame rail for support. Unplug the ABS sensor from the caliper wiring harness adapter socket.
2
Remove the caliper by turning the twin rear mount bolts in a counterclockwise direction; the caliper will slide free of the rotor without these bolts in place. Watch for the pads, which can fall out of the caliper pistons once the unit is removed. Store the caliper on the control arm of the truck, or tie it to the control arm. Do not let the caliper dangle as the brake lines can become damaged.
3
Remove the rotor by turning the spindle nut counterclockwise, then pulling the rotor free of the hub. Resurface or replace the rotor, then position it back over the hub and secure the spindle nut clockwise.
4
Replace the pads on the caliper pistons, then slide the caliper over the new rotor. Secure the caliper by turning the mount bolts clockwise.
5
Replace the wheel, then turn all lug nuts in a clockwise direction, with an alternating pattern. Lower the truck by removing the jack stand and turning the pressure screw on the floor jack counterclockwise.
Tips & Warnings
Change rotors in pairs.

Change the pads when changing the rotors, so they will "mate" properly.

Use extreme caution while working underneath a lifted truck.
ResourcesAlways replace rotors when installing new brake pads

GMC . How to Change Brake Rotors on a 4WD

Most modern four-wheel-drive vehicles use front disk brakes, which include a spinning rotor friction surface. This rotor is similar to the rotor for most other vehicles, except that it may be a "sealed bearing" type, or require the removal of a spindle nut before it can be properly removed. The average backyard mechanic can change the brake rotor in a 4WD vehicle in about 40 minutes.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Socket set
Wrenches
Screwdriver

Step by Step :
1
Lift the vehicle with the floor jack by putting the head of the jack onto a frame rail and pumping the lever. Place a jack stand nearby on the same frame rail for support.
2
Remove the wheel and tire by turning all of the lug nuts counterclockwise. Place the wheel away from the work area, and store the nuts in a safe location.
3
Remove the caliper by turning the rear mount bolts counterclockwise and then sliding the caliper from the rotor. The pads may fall out of the caliper pistons, or could require prying with a screwdriver. Some professionals clamp the caliper pistons so they do not expand while removed from the brakes. Secure the caliper with string or ties to the control arm of the suspension; don't leave the caliper dangling. Some ABS systems have a sensor wiring harness adapter plug--pull it to remove.
4
Remove the rotor by turning the spindle nut counterclockwise (axle nut), then removing any keeper bolts that are in the front of the rotor. The rotor should pull directly away from the axle, and might have internal wheel bearings that come with it.
5
Replace the rotor by pressing it to the hub and securing the spindle nut clockwise. Attach any keeper screws clockwise also. Replace the pads and slide the caliper onto the rotor, securing the rear mount bolts. Replace the wheel by turning the lug nuts in a clockwise direction, with an alternating pattern. Remove the jack stand and lower the vehicle.
6
Repeat the entire process on the opposite brake.
Tips & Warnings
Change brake rotors and pads together.

Change rotors in pairs--front and rear.

Use extreme caution when working under a vehicle.

Facing the flywheel is the first part of the clutch. This disk-shaped plate is called a clutch disk. When you are not stepping on the clutch pedal, this disk is forced against the flywheel (see Step 4). A coating of friction material causes the two plates to adhere to each other, which forces them to turn at the same speed. 4. Next to the clutch disk is the clutch pressure plate. This mechanism forces the clutch disk against the flywheel or allows it to move away from the flywheel when it is time to change gears. Here's how it does that: • When you step on the clutch pedal to disengage the clutch and disconnect the engine from the transmission, a clutch release arm forces a throwout bearing into the pressure plate's release levers. As a result, the pressure on the clutch disk is released, and the disk can turn independently of the flywheel. 1 7Q Part II: What Makes It Go? • After you move the gearshift to the proper gear, you release the clutch pedal. This movement causes springs in the pressure plate to force the disk against the flywheel again, and both the disk and the flywheel resume spinning together at a new speed.

In this way, the clutch disk can catch up with an engine that is turning faster — or more slowly — than before and can transmit its motion to the transmission. 5. On the clutch side of the flywheel, the drive train continues, but its name changes. It is not called the crankshaft anymore; it is now called the transmission input shaft because it carries the power via the turning shaft into the transmission. It rotates at the same speed and in the same direction as all the parts I've covered up to now. 6. Inside the transmission is a group of gears of varying sizes. These gears can move together and apart, in various combinations, to determine how fast and with how much power the car's wheels will turn, and in which direction. 7. The next part of the drive train emerges from the other side of the transmission, with another new name. This time it is called the transmission output shaft because it transmits the power that the transmission is putting out to the driveshaft.

8. The driveshaft of a rear-wheel-drive vehicle with a conventional engine has a U-joint (short for universal joint) at either end. The U-joints enable the driveshaft to move freely without affecting the more rigid transmission shaft at one end, and to absorb the vertical movement of the rear axle and wheels at its other end. Figure 9-3: The differential causes the axle and the rear wheels to move at right angles to the spinning driveshaft. .
